The oak is the sacred tree of the Germanic Thor, of the Celtic Taranis, and of Zeus and Jupiter, those gods who rule over the celestial phenomena of thunder and lightning. For the oak attracts their violence unabashedly.
It scarcely bows to wind and weather, but stands earth-powerful without wavering. Thus it has been an object of worship, a tree of priests and shamans since ancient times. Its Celtic name "duir" seems to be related to our word "door", because the oak has always been a gateway to the other world, to our ancestors and roots.
When smoked, oak bark gives great strength, resilience, success, fame, strength of character, sense of justice and long life.
