Shri Chinmoy was born in 1931, and after losing his father and mother, lived for 20 years in Shri Aurobindo's ashram in Pondicherry. In the early 1960s, he travelled to America. He calls his path the path of love, devotion and self-surrender, through which he always takes the disciple into his consciousness and leads him to the Supreme.
Shri Chinmoy also manifests spirituality in fields as diverse as sports, painting, poetry and peace work. He organises the 'World Peace Run' (Shri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace-Run) every two years, which increasingly unites people across national, ideological and religious boundaries in the spirit of love, and leads peace meditations at the American Congress, for the UN, at the Pentagon and at the British Parliament, among others. His yoga is a dynamic integration of Eastern and Western ways.
