The Latin name Artemisia is derived from the Greek goddess Artemis, the protector of wild animals, women and children. Artemis was knowledgeable in herbal medicine, which was used, among other things, to alleviate typical women's ailments.
Among the ancient Germanic tribes, the mugwort herb was also called solstice girdle. They used it specifically to drive away spirits and demons, but also to protect and bless, as well as to accompany the transition of a deceased person into the afterlife.
When smoked, mugwort spreads the typical spicy scent of smoking herbs. It is well suited for incense blends.
