Rosemary is an evergreen shrub, an ancient medicinal and spice plant that is native to the Mediterranean region and prefers lime-rich, sunny locations. Rosemary is a typical plant of the garrigue and maquis, but is also cultivated as a spice plant. In ancient times, rosemary was dedicated to Aphrodite and symbolised fidelity. Rosemary was a component of the famous "Hungarian Water", one of the oldest perfumes. It is a component of the spice mixture "Herbs of Provence" and an important raw material for perfumery, cosmetics and pharmacy.
