Aerial yoga - often simply called cloth yoga - is the new trend that lets you fly and allows you to experience yoga in a new way. You can get the equipment for aerial yoga, i.e. yoga cloths and the corresponding fastening devices, here in the YOGISHOP.
Aerial Yoga... because only flying is more beautiful!
Aerial yoga or cloth yoga is without doubt not just "some new trend" but a truly amazing new way of practicing yoga. In aerial yoga, the asanas are not performed on a yoga mat, but instead in a trapezoid-shaped cloth attached to the ceiling. The cloth can envelop the practitioner like a cocoon and give a pleasant feeling of being protected and supported (e.g. in the final relaxation), but it can also serve to make postures even more challenging and intense than on the mat. The physical forces are skilfully used in aerial yoga to create a very special experience that is a wonderful addition to yoga on the floor. The cloth brings a completely new component that changes a lot, and yet it is still yoga and the asanas we are familiar with. Aerial yoga offers a unique mixture of strength and lightness; it is both challenging and relaxing. Aerial yoga also promotes flexibility, and while some asanas are more demanding in the cloth than on the mat, others are easier and can be performed without much muscle strength and without pressure. This means that many asanas can be held for longer, which allows their effect to unfold more fully. What initially sounds or looks very acrobatic is actually nothing "out of the ordinary" but is very practical for most yogis and yoginis (which contraindications should be taken into account in individual cases are explained in the aerial yoga training courses). Aerial yoga has a special appeal, and almost everyone who has heard of it is curious to get to know and try out this special type of yoga.
Experienced aerial yoga teachers have developed numerous useful exercise sequences that can be performed with the yoga towel and with which the potential of aerial yoga can be fully utilized.
Some key benefits of Aerial Yoga at a glance:
- Aerial Yoga provides a whole new experience of yoga
- The asanas are modified by the inclusion of the yoga towel, so that, for example, pressure on the vertebrae is eliminated and the practitioner can stay in the postures longer
- The cloth can also be used, among other things, to intensify stretching
- Letting go and trust can be encouraged because the practitioner allows himself to be carried by the yoga towel
Different types of cloth yoga
In an article by Daniela Singhal, published in YOGA AKTUELL issue 87, the different types of cloth yoga are described as follows:
Ananda Aerial Yoga: In addition to physical aspects, experiences such as letting go, security and trust are also in the foreground. In many studios, the asanas are practiced both in a cloth and on the floor. Pranayama and meditation are also part of the program.
AntiGravity Yoga: The style developed by Christopher Harrison in the USA is a workout that integrates elements from Pilates, gymnastics and dance. Offering this special form of cloth yoga requires a license.
The equipment for Aerial Yoga
In contrast to other yoga styles, you need a little more equipment/accessories for aerial yoga. The central element of aerial yoga is of course the yoga towel. It goes without saying that this must be an extremely durable, stable towel in which the practitioner can feel truly safe and secure. In addition, the yoga towel for aerial yoga must meet the tried and tested dimensions in order to provide optimal conditions for the exercises. Just like the towel, the device used to attach it to the ceiling must of course also provide maximum safety. We have included yoga towels and accessories for hanging devices that meet these criteria in our range in order to be able to offer you the perfect equipment for aerial yoga.
