Rosemary is an evergreen shrub, an ancient medicinal and aromatic plant that is native to the Mediterranean region and prefers calcareous, sunny locations. Rosemary is a typical plant of the garrigue and macchia, but is also cultivated as a spice plant. In ancient times, rosemary was dedicated to Aphrodite and symbolized loyalty. Rosemary was a component of the famous "Hungarian water", one of the oldest perfumes. It is a component of the "Herbs of Provence" spice mixture and an important raw material for perfumery, cosmetics and pharmacy.
