Biodegradation
Carnauba wax and beeswax are natural waxes that are biodegradable. Soap made from organic olive oil, like all vegetable soaps, has the special feature compared to all other washing-active substances that immediately after use it combines with the lime always present in waste water to form lime soap and thus neutralises itself in its surface-active effect on aquatic life (primary degradation). The lime soap is then rapidly degraded to 100% carbon dioxide and water by microorganisms (secondary degradation). In the production process of sugar surfactants, parts are taken from the plant raw materials starch, sugar and fat, which, however, remain completely intact in their natural structural fabric. It is therefore relatively easy for microorganisms to completely degrade these surfactants to 100%. Soap and sugar surfactants are considered to be readily biodegradable according to OECD.
